Three
or four days ago, we were discussing after dinner, what should be the
menu for lunch on the first day of the Deepavali, the festival of
lights. There were usual suggestions, But all of a sudden, My
granddaughter (age 12) said, “Coming to think of it, its also
Halloween, Lets have a Halloween theme party on that day!” Everyone
agreed as it would be some kind of change from the usual routine
fare.
My
granddaughter took on herself the assignment of fixing up he menu
with appropriate names for the Halloween. She also prepared the name
plates for the dishes, which were arranged on a Buffet table. Here is
a list of the dishes
Drinks
Blood-
what else but tomato juice
with a pinch of cumin powder, asafoetida and salt.

drinking water naturally

Bat's
eyes- Cherry
tomatoes arranged in a black bowl lined with spinach leaves.
Decorated with carved yellow capsicum in shape of Jack-o-lantern.
Toad
balls in vampire sauce-
small round potatoes
boiled in salt water and shallow fried after skin removal; served
with tomato ketchup.
Skeleton
fingers- Yogi
sticks
Main
courses
Earthworm
salad – Shredded
cooked beetroot, shredded cucumbers, carrots,and capsicum, garnished
with onion rings.
Bats
in chopped vampire sauce-
Long rice boiled and stir
fried with baked beans, sliced onion, shredded cabbage leaves, spring
onions and capsicum pieces.
Slippery
sewer slugs- Spaghetti
in white sauce
Desert
Vampire
stew- Oranges,
tangerines, aqpples and bananas cut into small pieces, mixed with
cream and milk
Though
the names may be blood curdling, the feast turned out to be really a
royal one. A grand beginning for the festival of festivals in India –
Deepavali.
